Couples Therapy Plan
What is the Couples Therapy Plan?
The Couples Therapy Plan offers a structured 10-week psychoeducational course with integrated experiential exercises that are designed to teach couples in committed relationships to improve their communication and strengthen their relationship.
What does the 10-week curriculum entail?
Week 1 - Intake Session
Both partners participate in the initial session to discuss their reasons for participating, outline their initial goals and provide a brief relationship history. After the initial session, a relationship survey and additional outcome measures are administered.
Week 2 - Individual Interviews
Individual Interviews are scheduled with each partner to obtain individual specific information, including a brief overview of each partner’s family history.
Week 3 - Feedback Session
Using The Sound Relationship House theory from the Gottman Method, feedback is provided about the strengths and challenges in the relationship.
Week 4 - Learn and integrate effective communication strategies
Individual Interviews are scheduled with each partner to obtain individual specific information, including a brief overview of each partner’s family history.
Week 5 - Target and work through a gridlocked issue (Part 1 of 2)
Gridlocked problems can contribute to distress and disconnection in the relationship. The goal is to move from gridlock to dialogue. Weeks 5 and 6 teaches couples open up a dialogue using the Dreams Within Conflict Exercise.
Week 6 - Target and work through a gridlocked issue (Part 2 of 2)
Gridlocked problems can contribute to distress and disconnection in the relationship. The goal is to move from gridlock to dialogue. Weeks 5 and 6 teaches couples to open up a dialogue using the Dreams Within Conflict Exercise.
Week 7 - Learn the Art of Compromise
Once increased and mutual understanding is achieved, a compromise may be needed. this session teaches couples how to compromise in a way that considers both partners’ needs.
Week 8 - Rituals to Maintain the Relationship
There are six (6) recommended rituals to invest into your relationship. Learn about what they are and create a plan to make it happen.
Week 9 - Troubleshooting & Relapse Prevention
Couples can troubleshoot any specific issues and learn relapse prevention strategies.
Week 10 - Closing Session
The final wrap up session reviews the couples progress and is used to reflect on what the couple has learned throughout the Couples Therapy Plan.
Are my partner and I a good fit for the Couples Therapy Plan?
The Couples Therapy Plan is a good fit for couples either in a monogamous or ethically non-monogamous relationship.
Participating partners must reside:
Within the United States: CA, DC, FL, HI, MA, NY, OR, TX, UT, or VA
Outside the United States: Countries with no regulatory board for mental health services
What issues are not a good fit for the Couples Therapy Plan?
Betrayal trauma, including affairs
When one or both partners are diagnosed with an active mental health condition that is not in remission. Conditions can include, but are not limited to: Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Personality Disorders
When one or both partners exhibits emotional reactivity and engages in high conflict
What is the cost for the Couples Therapy Plan?
The Couples Therapy Plan uses a pay-as-you-go model. Standard session rates apply and can be found on the FAQs page.
